Teachers’ Guide

The BCS Jersey Website Competition is intended to promote and generate further interest in ICT ideally raising awareness of the broader subject of e-business, recognising its vast potential and multidiscipline nature. The competition is expected to be part of a learning experience and pupils can enter either as individuals or as part of a team consisting of up to four, thus giving pupils the chance to collaborate and showcase their combined and diverse imagination and creative skills along with any design and technical capability.

The three age categories (below) means that the competition is fully inclusive and students of all ages are able to take part in creating a website. The teamwork element allowing for differing abilities, interests and mixed competences to be combined. The only criteria are that the web site must be linked to a Jersey theme and is accompanied by a report to describe and explain the web site project. Ideally, due to other commitments and demands on the pupil’s and teacher’s time, the theme will connected to other coursework or studies that the pupils are already working on, however this is not essential and the students are allowed to choose their subject freely.

The age categories:

  • Primary school (11 years old maximum)
  • Secondary school (11 to 16 years old)
  • A-level students (16 to 18 years old)
Although the age categories are defined by the stage the students are at in school, this does not mean that students must enter through their schools. Anybody wishing to enter has the choice of entering through either their school or youth organisation, as long as the institution they belong to has agreed to take part in the competition. Click here to find out how to register your school or youth organisation.

Student registration:

Students can register as teams of up to 4 or as individuals.

In order to comply with data protection requirements, the organisers of the competition intend to keep as few details as possible about the individual competition entrants.

Registration is by email and the information we need is as follows:

  • Names of each student in team
  • Age group in which they are entering
  • Name of school or youth group
  • Name of coordinating teacher / youth leader
