Thursday 14th September 2006: Official Launch of BCS Jersey Schools Website Competition
The launch of the BCS Jersey Schools Website Competition took place today at Jersey Telecom’s Network Operations Centre.
A group of students from Highlands College visited the centre which is the heart of the Island’s communications network. On the tour, the students learned about the way the Internet works and how Jersey links into the World Wide Web, giving access to the Internet to all Islanders.
The students were met at Jersey Telecom by Brett Sumner, Chairman of the local branch of the BCS. The tour was hosted by Tim Ringsdore, Jersey Telecom’s Sales and Marketing Director, who spoke to the students about the importance of world class communications networks to the Island and how e-commerce is becoming a major part of Jersey’s economy.
Full details of the tour can be found by clicking here.
Tuesday 6th February 2007: Hundreds of entrants have registered their interest in the competition with around twenty schools in total keen to demonstrate their web page ideas. There are an even split of primary and secondary schools showing an interest, however some secondary schools have entered large numbers of students from each year group, making for a very exciting and challenging competition for the judges. The competition committee shall be contacting the sponsoring schools in the next week or two to ensure that progress is being made - with a view to BCS representatives making some presentations at some of the schools.
Monday 5th March 2007: The chairman, Brett Sumner wrote to all schools to confirm the details of students that have registered for the competition and also to remind teachers of the marking criteria along with the important dates such as when to submit the final web site entry (4th May 2007) and the prize giving ceremony date: Tuesday 26th June 2007.
